Legal document examination / Research and articles
In the baseline analysis, 3,713 responses concerned samples from different writers. In 114 responses the examiner definitively, but incorrectly, attributed both to one writer (3.1%). In the opposite direction, 32 of 2,863 responses on same-writer samples definitively excluded a common writer (1.1%). Each rate has its own denominator.

The study tested human comparisons of handwritten passages. These error rates cannot give the probability that a particular contract signature was forged or measure this online lab’s accuracy.
