Imaging and preservation
A PDF page may contain a picture of a paper sheet and a text layer created by optical character recognition (OCR). The text can be searched and copied, but similar-looking letters or numerals may be misread. Selectable text alone does not establish whether a document was created digitally or scanned.
If a copied amount differs from the one visible on the page, inspect the image at a readable scale and note its exact location. Save the received file before running another recognition pass; retain the resulting copy separately.
