Referring an original to an examiner

A focused question helps determine which materials to submit and how to plan the examination.

Forensic methods

Separate questions about the writer of a signature, alteration of a page and the sequence of crossing strokes. Each may require different material. Ask the examiner what to provide, how to transfer it and whether proposed examinations may affect the document.

In a dispute over a will signature, list the questioned will, working copies and comparison signatures of known origin separately. Include dates and how each item was obtained. Request a report that identifies the basis and remaining limits of the conclusions.
