Framing questions for a handwriting expert in litigation

An answerable question identifies the signature, the comparison material and the limitations that need explaining.

Legal document examination / Forensic handwriting and documents in legal disputes

Specify the task rather than asking whether fraud occurred. Do the signature on page three and known samples A–C show features consistent with the same writer? Ask which samples are suitable for comparison and how their origin was established.

Request the similarities and differences, alternative explanations considered and the effect of image quality on the conclusion. An inconclusive report should identify what is missing and whether the original might help. Contract validity and legal responsibility remain separate questions.
