Legal document examination / Forensic handwriting and documents in legal disputes
Start with the circumstances of signing. Who was present, who received the signed copy, and was it signed in ink or through an online platform? For an online transaction, the signature image alone does not record the signing event. Keep the delivered file and any confirmation from the platform.
For a handwritten signature, collect several signatures of known origin, preferably from a similar period and writing situation. Record where each came from. This helps the examiner consider natural variation within one writer’s signatures and explain which features the available copy can show.
