Worked examples
A pale patch appears near the date on a photographed letter. One possible finding is: “In file A, page 1, the area to the right of the date is lighter than the adjacent background. The original has not been examined.” Identify the region and provide the unmarked version so another reader can locate it.
Before writing “the date was erased,” consider reflected light, scanner processing or a paper defect. If the material cannot distinguish them, say so and identify the additional image or examination that might help. A numerical score with no measurement basis obscures the finding.
